Weekened Shenanigans

I hope you all had a great weekend- I don't know about you but mine was way too short. Friday night Allison, her husband and I grabbed some awesome BBQ at Iron Starr- we used our Keep it local OK card and got a rockin discount! If you don't have one of these cards and you live in OKC you are missing out! I'm a girl who spends too munch money on shoes and every penny I can save eating out makes a dent in my shoe savings :) After the grub we headed over to the State Fair Arena and watched Oklahoma cowboys do their thing. I don't know about you but milking a wild cow is not on my everyday list of to do's- major kudos to all that participated and Thank You to the Oklahoma Cattemen Association for supporting Children's Miracle Network. We caught a glimpse of the Pioneer Woman and her cute punks. I think the highlight of the evening was the ice cream and cinnamon/sugar coated almonds we devoured.

Saturday I spent the day with mom and we went and watched Eat Pray Love. Great movie- perfect chick flick/inspirational movie for a hot Saturday afternoon. Sunday was spent at Church, Sorority Potato bar, and Sorority New Member Meeting. Looking forward to my four day weekend coming up- family time and stillwater to shoe bank for shoe shopping! Allison over at allioppe and I are planning on doing some more stalking (don't worry nothing dangerous, just all in good fun) this evening! Can you guess who we'll be stalking?

Oh yes, The Pioneer Woman. I promise not to follow her in the bathroom this year. We first caught glance of her a year ago at the annual Oklahoma Cattlemen Association's Range Round Up. This event is held at the State Fair Arena and a portion of Friday and Saturday night proceeds will benefit Children's Miracle Network. We'll be grabbing some local BBQ then heading over to the arena to watch cowboys strut their stuff! Maybe this year I will meet my Marloboro man, a girl can hope, right?

The Pioneer Woman Cooks

I want to apologize for being a slacker blogger and not writing sooner. I could give you excuses but who wants to hear those? Anyhoo, on to the good stuff...

My PW partner in crime Allison and I met up at 50 Penn Place Full Circle Books to see The Pioneer Woman and more importantly buy her book and get it autographed. We got there about 5:00 PM, PW wasn't going to start signing books till about 6:30. We were right outside the door and not too far back considering. We chatted and bonded with fellow PW followers and when 6:30 came out the line was all the way to the other side of the large mall and curving along one of the back hallways. Thank goodness we got there early! The adorable girls of Marlboro man and Pioneer woman came out and greeted the crowd- took some pics and even signed some books (I got mine signed-they were so sweet)! It was great seeing the whole fam there even her sister Betsy her cute nephew were there!

While waiting in line I ran into my good friend Kym's mom Pam, who is a fellow blog friend had me grab a book to get signed for Kym...what a sweet mom!

Time passed and we finally made it up to the front of the line! She was so sweet and told Allison and I we looked familiar- we told her we were at the Rodeo- I didn't mentioned I stalked her in the bathroom, ha! She also said we were adorable and that she felt like she knew us in a past life- like we could have been her kids in a past life. HOW SWEET IS THAT??? I really loved that she took time to talk to everyone and sign a message on their book. It was very time consuming but so worth it in the end!

I'm excited to read her cookbook and try out these awesome recipes! Everything in there has step by step pictures and detailed instructions. Plus, nothing looks impossible to cook!

Couch to 5k

Last night I started a new workout program called couch to 5k. I recently heard about it from one of my besties Morgan. This program trains you to be able to run a 5k in 9 weeks. I downloaded the application on my iphone and it tells you what to do on the treadmill while listening to music at the same time. The first week you do a brisk five minute warm up walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of twenty minutes. Then a five minute cool down walk. Your iphone/ipod cues you when to walk or jog and counts down how long you have left. Week 2 is a five minute warm up walk then alternate 90 seconds of jogging and two minutes of walking then a five minute cool down. Week 3 is 5 minute warm up then do two repetitions of the following: jog 90 seconds walk 90 seconds jog 3 minutes walk 3 minutes then cool down for 5 minutes. As you can see the jogging gets longer throughout the weeks to build the stamina to jog for 30 minutes which is equivalent to a 5k. I'm pretty excited and will keep you updated on my progress. Fall has arrived in full force! I'm excited for pumpkins, leaves changing, hot drinks from Starbucks, and Halloween!

Sorry I've been a slacker blogger this week. Its been a crazy week at work then to come home and crash.

So today I forgot my cell phone...left it at home. Had to go the whole day without it and then went out for happy hour with no phone. Do you understand how hard it is not to have my cell phone on me. I felt like I lost a limb. I know that sounds horrible, but seriously I felt lost without it. What if someone called? What if someone texted me? I needed to make a few personal phone calls today and couldn't! The one day I actually have exciting news and need to use my cell phone...I can't. Sad day. Okay, so I'm being a little dramatic, but it's what I do- just ask my mom.

My parents got a new baby this past week- Meet Juno! She is 4 months old and only weighs about 2 pounds. We think she is a shih tzu mix. She is looking like a hot mess in this picture, but not to worry she got groomed yesterday. They have their hands full with four dogs now!

Dreams Do Come True

Well, I guess it's about time to spill the beans. I met THE Pioneer Woman on Friday night. Allison and I walked into the State Fair Arena and like a beacon of light there she was. We decided to screw the general admission seats and sit in the reserves right behind her. Allison's husband came with us and poor soul had to put up with us oohing and goohing over her..."oh she's taking a picture" "look she's tweeting". We even got to see the punks aka her kids and Marlboro man in the flesh! I must admit he is a good lookin cowboy! I knew the pioneer and I could instantly be bff's when I glanced and saw her take a sip out of her budlight bottle. About halfway through the rodeo I saw her get up and head out of the stadium. I looked at Allison and said "I'm gonna go say hi and meet her" and that's exactly what I did. Do I have any shame? Nope. Followed her straight to the ballroom where she was standing in front of the door with her kids. I politely asked "Excuse me, are you the pioneer woman?" and in a calm sweet voice she answered back "why, yes" We chit chatted for a minuted then went into the bathroom to do our business. Then came out of the stalls and washed our hands next to each other. I told her how I've been trying to win a mixer...hint hint pick Linzy. ha! :) She told me it was nice meeting me and went on her merry way.

I facebooked, texted, tweeted that I had just met THE PIONEER WOMAN. The whole world of Linzy knew 5 seconds after it happened. God bless the iphone.

I went and had a fabulous weekend getaway to Dallas. Mom and I were totally impressed by North Park Mall. Absolutely fabulous stores and a million to choose from! After North park we headed over to Highland Park Village to finish up our shopping. It was nice getting away from the crowds at North Park and be able to really look at the clothes at Anthroplogie. Here's what I bought. Extremely happy with my purchases...and all three were on sale! Go Me! You don't have to shop at fabulous stores and break the bank. Eventually it will go on sale. If a store runs out of it try looking for it on Amazon or google. Why pay full price? This girl is on a budget!

I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited about the adventure that lies ahead tonight. The one and only Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman will be at the 25th annual Cattleman's Association Range Round Up tonight and tomorrow night at the State Fair Arena. Her family Ranch will be participating in the Rodeo and I'm hoping to get a glance and her and Marlboro man! My friend and wing man Allison will be going with and I'm hoping we get the chance to meet her. Maybe I'll even meet a cowboy!

Tickets are still available at Ticketmaster or you can buy tickets at the event which starts at 7:30 PM August 28th and 29th! Portions of the proceeds benefit Children's Miracle Network.

Where are my cowboy boots when I need them??

The Mother ship

This weekend I'm taking a well deserved road trip to Dallas with my Mama. I will be heading back to the mother ship, also known as Anthropologie. Several years ago I visited two dear high school friends in Washington D.C. We decided to head to Georgetown and do a little shopping. They are boys so needless to say they went their way and I went mine. I stumbled upon a little store named Anthropologie. It was love at first sight. Okay, maybe lust at first sight. That was the day my fashion sense matured and I became a woman, ha! I bought a few things and since then every time I make a trip to a big city I make a stop in to the mother ship. NYC...check, Chicago...check, Kansas City...check, Dallas...check (make that a double check once this weekend comes around). I haven't been to Anthropologie with Mama so she is going to see me in rare form. Besides hitting up the shop we are seeing family and watching Mama Mia. Dad is going to meet up with us Sunday and get some pool time in with family friends then hit up McGeehee's Catfish on the way home.

Anthroplogie, Mama Mia, and Catfish- the parents know a way to a girls heart :)

My kind of camping

As most of you know I'm not the camping type. A million years ago when I was a kid my parents and I went camping at lake Murray- we did the whole tent, sleep outside, cook with fire type of thing. We were sound a sleep in our tents when the Oklahoma weather began a brewin and we had to relocate to the car in fear of getting swept up by a tornado...true story. So, that ended that and haven't been camping since.

However, check out these pictures - this is my kind of camping. I came across these at Belle Maison- its Les Ormes campground in France! I could totally do this kind of camping!

This weekend I went and watched Julie & Julia with my good friend Allison over at Allioppe. We loved it! It stars Meryl Streep as Julia Child - she and her husband move to France and in order to occupy her time she enrolls in cooks classes at Le Cordon Bleu. She loves to cook and loves to eat even more! After graduating cooking school she begins her journey on writing a cook book and even more time tying to get it published. Stanley Tucci plays her husband and you can't help but fall in love with the adorable and hilarious couple! Intertwined in this plot in the story of Julie played by Amy Adams, a lowly cubicle worker who wanted to find herself and did so by cooking her way through Julia Child's cookbook. Her story shows her quest to complete the task of cooking 524 recipes in 356 days while writing all about the journey in her blog. I don't want to give too much away, but encourage you all to go see it!

Late Night Addiction

So, I have a little bit of a tv addiction. I can not get enough of house hunters hosted by Suzanne Whang. Its at various times on HGTV and I usually catch the 12am episode right before bed every night. "House Hunters takes viewers behind the scenes as individuals, couples and families learn what to look for and decide whether or not a home is meant for them. Focusing on the emotional experience of finding and purchasing a new home, each episode shows the process as buyers search for a home." In Linzy terms: a potential buyer and real estate agent look at three different homes and then the potential buyer picks one. I'm not sure if it's the fact that I love guessing which house they are going to buy due to my competitive self or the fact that nothing else is one tv. Yes, I lay in bed and see if I can guess the correct house, don't judge me. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty good at figuring out which house they are going to pick. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I'm usually 75% right. And why yes I am watching it at this very moment, again don't judge me.

Oh and not even get me started on house hunters international that's a whole other addiction.

The Oklahoma City Zoo

Early Sunday morning I headed to the Oklahoma City zoo with my parents and three close family friends. We got to the zoo right before it opened to avoid the crowd and the heat. Luckily a cool front came through and the high for the day was to only be 90, ha! We hoped on the tram and began seeing loads of animals. It was pleasant and cool for a June morning so the animals were all active and out where we could see them. We got off the tram and walked through the dinosaur exhibit. It was cool seeing fossils from millions of years ago and huge life size dinosaurs.

We then headed through the great escape seeing gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees. Next the temps began to rise as we headed through the Oklahoma Trails. I enjoyed seeing the bears. They looked like they had both just taken a dip in the water. We also passed by the lions, I don't think I have seen them this up close before. All three were chewing on bones.

We then headed to my favorite part of the zoo which is the island life! With Island life that means only one thing...flamingo's!!! After the flamingos our zoo trip was pretty much complete. We passed going to the Pachyderm building since the elephants are gone and also skipped going to the aquarium.

Overall the trip was great! We did it in about two hours and left right when it really started to heat up! If you live in or near OKC you should definitely check out the zoo!

I hope everyone had a wonderful father's day with their dad. I spent the day at my parents house lounging in the pool, getting frozen yogurt from orange tree, grilling hamburgers, and watching YES man. It was a great day with my dad (and mom) :) !

My good friend Mary Jo from college has come up with a genius plan to find a date and maybe just maybe a boyfriend. She will go on fifty two dates in fifty two weeks.
Here are the rules:

*The total of all dates over the the 52 week period of time (June 2009-June 2010) must be 52 or greater.
*Multiple dates with the same person are acceptable.
*Setting Mary Jo up on blind dates is acceptable and encouraged.
*Must be male, straight, and in between the ages of 21-40.

Cozumel

I know I've been a slacker and haven't posted in like 9 years. okay, or like 3 weeks. One of those weeks I spent in Cozumel Mexico. We arrived on a Monday morning and instantly hit the pool and layed out. Got totally burned on my shoulders that day and suffered throughout the trip. Next day went into town and did some shopping. Had an awesome pine colada at Fat Tuesdays. Got in the car and headed down to a public beach and went on an awesome snorkel excursion with my dad. Saw a huge grouper, school of barracuda's, turtle, and a SHARK! Yep, a shark! It was a baby and at the bottom of the ocean...not scary. Then hopped back in the car and headed to the other side of the island. Had some super strong drinks and headed to dinner at a local favorite. The next few days were spent on the beach or at the pool relaxing. I couldn't have asked for a better trip and was bitter sweet to come home. Here are a few pics to enjoy.

So did anyone watch Jon & Kate + 8 last night?! This used to be one of my favorite tv shows, now it just makes me sad! They sat next to each other on the couch and couldn't look at one another. Neither one seemed to want to work things out or sorry for what has happened. They admitted their wrong doings but they weren't sorry for them. It seems like divorce is the path they are choosing and it's so sad! However, it may be the best choice for their family.

On a better note I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! I'm days away from Cozumel and could not be more excited!

So every day on my drive to work I pass by rainbow bread or maybe its wonder bread?? What I do know is that they are making fresh, hot, delicous smelling bread every dang day. My mouth waters every. single. time. I eat breakfast at work, usually a slimfast shake or oatmeal. So, you bet I'm starving...and that dang bread smells so good! Mom, I know your reading this: when I come over for dinner next time please make fresh bread. Thanks.

Walking

Early Sunday morning I joined my mom and 19,000 others downtown for the 9th annual Oklahoma City Memorial marathon/walk. We participated in the 5k walk that circled around downtown OKC. I can't tell you how inspiring it was to see 19,000 people in the streets of OKC. In front of us people. Behind us people. We ended the walk when the first half marathon participate ran through the finish line and by the time we reached home we watched the winner of the full marathon speed down the streets to the end of his journey.

In 5th grade a year after the bombing took place my elementary school art class painted tiles that would later be chosen for the children's area of the memorial. My tile is placed on the wall for all to see. It's an honor to have my tile in the exhibit.

As some of you may know I'm an only child. I have always liked being an only child and rarely on occasion wished that I had a brother or sister. The times that I wish I had a sibling are when I think about when my parents are gone, but I get a great sigh of relief from the thought of having my cousins in my life. I have two boy cousins that are close to me in age. They used to live somewhat close and growing up we spent many fall breaks, Christmas, summer, etc together. Our mom's are sisters so we were always getting together so in some way my cousins are like brothers to me! They would act just like a brother would to a sister, but they also made the tom boy come out in me. I'm the middle child out of the 3 cousins and the oldest is visiting this weekend with his fiance and little boy Ayden. Ayden was born in November and because he was so close to Christmas they were not able to visit Oklahoma. So this will be the first time meeting Ayden and I can not tell you how excited I am to see him! I'm calling him my nephew (instead of a second cousin) I figure that my cousins are like brothers so he might as well be a nephew to me!! ha :)

Fresh Ink

I'm in love, yes I said it. I'm in love with a card brand. Fresh Ink from Hallmark is in the top 10 of my favorite things. I could sit in Hallmark for hours upon end reading all of their fresh ink cards. They are simple, chic, witty, crazy, absurd, and so me. I love finding the perfect card to send friends. I think a card goes a long way. It doesn't have to be a birthday or wedding or even a thank you for someone to receive a card. There are plenty of times where a person needs a little pick me up and your unsuspecting card could just do the trick.

I received one yesterday and it happened to be a fresh ink from my best friend Lynsie. It made my day to say the least.

I could only find a few examples online, so when you have time to spare head up to your local Hallmark and check out fresh ink. You will not be disappointed!

I have a guilty pleasure...sigh. I'm not gonna lie I'm pretty stoked that it's coming back on tonight. Is it the spooky yet hilarious resemblance of sorority and fraternity life? Or just that I have nothing better to do? Who. Knows. I never considered myself a "sorority" girl.

They are predicting a blizzard! A blizzard...in Oklahoma...at the end of March! Ridiculous I tell you! I'm praying Walmart still has car ice scrapers. I broke mine in the last snow storm back in January. Wish me luck at lunch!

I had a really weird dream last night that I got to hang out with The Pioneer Woman - Ree Drummond! I know there was someone else with me, but I can't remember who I was with. Sometimes I wonder if dreams are dje'vu's or predictions for your life. Will this mean I will one day meet the pioneer woman?! Let's hope so.

Today I started a detox cleanse diet. I know some of you are rolling your eyes, thinking i'm crazy, and might even push the x on your computer screen. Well before you do so hear me out. I LOVE food. LOVE IT. I can try to eat less, diet, starve and it makes me crazy. My stomache is pissed and that makes my attitute pissed. So with that being said I'm trying what is known as the 'Master Cleanse'. I'm going to fight to not be pissed for the next few days hoping that the addiction that I have with food will subisde and I can start fresh after 10 (I'm praying I can do 7) days.

I'm drinking 2 Tablespoons of organic lemon juice, 2 Tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup, 1/10 Teaspoon ground cayenne pepper, 10 oz of filtered water

Here's what I should expect:

* normalize your appetite and metabolism so your body can comfortably adjust to it's ideal weight for your size naturally

*suppress hormone levels will be restored so every cell in your body will be charged with youth giving and feel good hormones

*There will be a natural shift away from unhealthy habits--without will power

*You'll cleanse and detox your entire body--the pounds of waste built up over the years will be released in just 10 days

*Reduced internal inflammation, which will ease aching joints

*Your energy levels will sore

Suprisinly the drink tastes pretty good and it makes it easy to get down. I have to drink about 3-4 bottles a day. If you are interested in this cleanse I suggest you buy the book The Master Cleanser. It has specfic instructions and important details that you need to consider before doing the cleanse.

Life is Short but Sweet for Certain

Does anyone else get sad when a celebrity dies. Not a "oh my goodness I'm going to cry" sad, but a "how awful he/she was so young, their poor family" sad. I always revert back to Princess Diana and remember the time and the place when I heard that she passed Away. I was with my parents at our lake house and we stayed up late watching a movie. It came on the news late that night and I just remember thinking how sad I felt for her boys. I can't imagine what I would do losing my mom at that early of an age. Growing up with both parents alive is hard enough! Natasha Richardson passed away from an accidental fall while skiing with her family in Canada this week and it again reminds me how short life is and how we all need to be thankful for each moment we have with our family and friends.

In other news...

I'm recovering from this past girls weekend in Kansas City! Four of us met two girls who live up there to celebrate our good friend Morgan's last days of being a single lady! We arrived late on Friday night due to the fact that there is absolutely NO WHERE to eat when you exit in Wichita. Now some of you are probably thinking "oh Linzy", but no no, we settled for the Wendy's for dinner that night. If you wanted to buy a car or sleep in a motel/hotel you were in luck, but eating...apparently they don't do much of that in Wichita. Saturday morning we headed out for a day of shopping! Then ate at this fabulous restaurant called Californos then we headed to Ernie Biggs Chicago Style Dueling Piano Bar! It was so much fun! Thanks to Andrea and Ashlea for planning such a great weekend!

It's a 900 sq foot former school house, and I can't help but absolutely fall in love with the yellow door.Yellow is one of my favorite colors and growing up I had a bright yellow room. Having a red door was one of the latest trends, and my good friend Allison over at www.allioppe.com painted her door a gorgeous turquoise.

Wedding Season is in full swing for me! I'm only in two weddings this season but will be attending a few as well. I am quite excited for this first one, my good friend Allison is getting married to a great guy who I know makes her very happy! The rehearsal and rehearsal dinner is tomorrow night and it gave me a great excuse to go shopping last night! I found a great deal at Banana Republic- All their sale items are an additional 30% off! I saved $40 on the top below! I got the green one, but may have to go back and get the blue! Super comfy and sassy! Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 80's so I'm thinking black dressy capri's and peep toe shoes with gold jewelry!

So, I was bad today and got punished...

At work we had some left over valentine's day stuff donated from Wal-mart. They are cutesy valentine's that have chocolate hearts in them. Four hearts to be exact. Well, I was CRAVING some chocolate and thought what the heck 4 little pieces won't hurt. As you know I gave up bad things for lent, chocolate being one of them. We'll I'm finishing up my third piece when I realize the fourth is missing. I look around my desk, in the trash, on the floor. I need this fourth chocolate. Three is not enough, but four is perfect. So, I finally give up and think, "hmm whatever" and go on with my business. An hour or so goes by...
I get up to go to the restroom and see the melted chocolate mess in my seat, and can only imagine what my rear end looks like! I start laughing, because what else can you do in a situation like this? So, I look down the hall and make sure everyone is in their office so I can sneak to the bathroom to see the damage to my pants.

It's bad....real bad. I get a paper towel and get it wet then go into the handicap stall and take off the pants and start getting the chocolate off. I think I got it all off for the most part. But I'm staying firmly in my seat till 5 then running to my car in hopes no one sees my wet behind!

Happy ash Wednesday to one and all

Every year at this time I give up something for Lent. This year I'm giving up food.

Not really all food just everything that is bad for me. No more sweets, pop, fried foods, etc. I'm also going to start a food diary and write everything I eat or drink down. Then a co-worker is going to review it spontaneously to make sure I'm not being naughty. I love food, and this is going to be very difficult for me. But, I have to got to get healthy and lose some weight.

Don't you hate when you walk into a public or even your work restroom and find that a brand new toliet paper is on the roll. I know, most of you are thinking that I should be thankful that there is toliet paper at all in the stall. I am thankful for that, but I'm not thankful for a brand new roll because it is almost darn near impossible to get that cheap toliet paper undone. I usually make a hott mess of it and rip it where its all uneven and destroyed. I have things to do ya know, like check facebook, or perezhilton.com, and pioneer woman dangit. I don't have time to mess with trying to get the toliet paper unrolled! I might just write a letter.

Since it's almost V-day I figured I would post my favorite romantic comedy. Sigh, You've Got Mail. It's the top 5 of my favorite movies. If you haven't watched it, rent it! Or borrow it from me, but you better give it back cause I stinkin adore this movie. It was on Lifetime last night and caught the last 30 minutes, I laughed and cried and said every line. Oh and how can you not love parker posy in this movie!

Could she be any cuter? Nope don't think she could.

Not only is she super cute, but she is also the kindest and gentle hearted dog around. Paris goes to elementary schools, libraries, kid's homes, elderly homes, and many other places visiting people. She is a therapy dog and brings smiles and joy to young and old. How can you not feel better looking at this face?

Plus, she has a fabulous job of modeling for Paws Around Town, a dog boutique in North Park Mall. If I were a dog I would want to wear what she was wearing!

Evolver opens with chirping birds and a woman's contented sigh. It's morning in the boudoir; a young lady is in post-coital repose; soon, a manservant will bring mimosas. Lots of R&B dudes promise opulent nights of ecstasy, but Legend is so classy that these fantasies seem like real journalism. With piano-flecked soul ("This Time"), lite funk ("Green Light") and reggae ("No Other Love"), Evolver's tunes and arrangements are as impeccable as the cut of Legend's suits. (Even his taste in guest rappers — André 3000, Kanye West — is upscale.) And there are a few surprises: "I Love, You Love" (produced by Will.i.am) builds a lush ballad around a guitar lick lifted from a Dire Straits tune. Legend can be goody-goody, but aspirational babymaking music doesn't get more skillful than this.

Movie:This movie got snubbed for awards this year. You will laugh and cry, and cry, and cry some more.

But its a good cry, not an ugly cry.

Clint Eastwood has hinted that his role as bigoted Korean War veteran Walt Kowalski — a gun-toting widower living in Detroit near the struggling Ford auto plant and even nearer to the Asian immigrants crowding him out of his run-down, racially mixed hood — may be his last role as an actor. Eastwood, 78, has two Oscars for directing Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, and two nominations for starring in them. But an Oscar for acting? Not yet. Get busy, Academy.
I don't think Eastwood will ever turn down a juicy role. But Gran Torino, named after the 1972 car that Walt garages and polishes like a symbol of his idealized past, is a humdinger of a valedictory. Directed by Eastwood from a script by newcomer Nick Schenk, Gran Torino is Eastwood's hell-raising salute to every hardass he's ever played. Cranky Walt often communicates in a growl that sounds like a demon in need of an exorcist (wait till you hear Eastwood rasp a few bars of the film's memorable title song). Walt squints at the Hmong family next door, especially Thao (Bee Vang), a teen with a rustler's eye on the Torino. Thao's smart-mouth sister, Sue (the wonderful Ahney Her), can defrost Walt with a beer and food that isn't his usual beef jerky, but only Walt's dog, Daisy, dares to get too close. Cocking his rifle when gangbangers intrude on his territory, Walt snarls, "Get. Off. My. Lawn." Terrific stuff. And it gets better when Walt confronts some hoods playing grabass with Sue: "Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while that you shouldn't have messed with? That's me."
And that "me" isn't just Walt. It's the Man With No Name taking aim in those spaghetti Westerns. It's Dirty Harry Callahan asking, "Do you feel lucky, punk?" It's William Munny, from Unforgiven, digging deep to note, "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have." It's even Frankie Dunn, the fight manager from Million Dollar Baby, who knows "tough ain't enough."
Tough has never been enough for Eastwood. It's a credit to the film's twist ending that Walt exorcises his demons without easy violence or bogus redemption. A lifetime in movies runs through this prime vintage Eastwood performance. You can't take your eyes off him. The no-frills, no-bull Gran Torino made my day.

You can see this piece at the Chicago Art Institute. Its my favorite piece of art. Seurat used tiny dots (the technique is called pointillism) to create a fabulous picture. I wonder how many dots are on this piece and how long it took him to create this? I'm not putting a review on this one because if you can't see its fabulousity yourself...well then your at the wrong blog.

It's nothin personal just a personal rant.

I think we've all been in situations where we are sitting in a room and someone is talking and won't let any others get a word in. The conversation switches and someone has the chance to talk and that same person shoves back in, changes the subject to revolve around them, and bam! No one can get a word in otherwise. What do you do in situations like this? Some talk over the person and butt their self in, while others sit quietly, stuck in a hell that is the other persons heaven. they are attention seekers. Has to, must be, loves to be the center of everything. You sit there and let the person have their own conversation party with themself. While you sit there pretending to be interested, laughing when cued, and nodding in appropriate spots. You try to look interested, oh wait, they are too involved with their conversation to notice.

Many a times I get stopped by friends who are still in college and they always ask the same question, "is life after college as fabulous as it seems?" and my response is always the same, "No." Life after college or as I like to refer to it as "LAC" is way overrated. Bills, student loans, rent, full time job. There's also the 3 b's- bridal showers, bachlorette's, and bridesmaids. This also becomes your full time job. The only satisfaction is knowing that you will one day have the opportunity to torture your friends like they tortured you. I kid, I kid. Weddings are fun...when your drunk :) You also don't live in a fabulous apartment over looking skyscrapers nor have the closet full of jimmy choo's or bcbg dresses. You have blank walls and leftover furniture that your parents handed down to you. You spend your nights and sometimes sadly even weekends sitting on your couch watching grey's anatomy and wondering why you don't have a boyfriend. So this raises the question of why LAC isn't this fabulous time in your life where you feel like you should be in an episode of sex and the city. I think we expect too much. We want the cinderella ending after college and we forget that we have to make the most of what we got.

The more you put in the more you get out of it. I can not tell you how many times I heard that in high school, college, and especially sorority. I think on some level we sometimes forget that can be a motto to life. You have to keep on keepin' on. So it's time to get off the couch, put grey's on pause, and make life fabulous. Because well...you are fabulous.
